How would you try to describe "cowboy poetry" ?

Broke Back Blank Verse

No Sheepish writing or bull allowed, just home sick, home spun, I survived the wet, wind, snow. and dirt tails rhymed to the rolling hills and rhymed to perilous plains. It is basically loneliness expressed as a ballad with no melody.

Cowboy poetry is talking about ...cows, goats, cats, dogs, beautiful lively girls, simple although some times tiring way of living.  I sense it must be happy poetry!  Optimistic!

It would make perfect lyrics to country music!

Cowboy poetry does not have to be about cowboys. It can include any aspect of country life, or even what happens when someone from the country encounters modern life in the city. It can be from either a male or female's point of view. It can sound like country lyrics, or it can sound like someone has a country or western accent. The best way to accomplish this is to lop off the "g" from "ing" verbs, for example: "running" becomes " runnin' " and "singing" becomes " singin' ." You can also include similes and metaphors and idioms which may sound like they were invented 50 or 100 or 150 years ago. My favorite cowboy poetry is usually humorous, although sometimes a melancholy poem can be thrown in for good measure. Unlike normal poetry, it is acceptable and even encouraged to use the word "ain't" in the text of a cowboy poem. Often cowboy poetry also includes the speaker getting the best of someone else, or else getting "whupped" by someone or something you don't expect. There is supposed to be a big cowboy poetry reading next weekend down in southern Utah in Kanab, but I'll probably be up here writing poetry of my own.
