I'm confused by your question.

How anyone uses a poem is very individual. Most poems, villanelle or otherwise, are used to entertain, to inform, and to move people.

I made a huge mistake with the first villanelle I wrote. I tried to make it too intellectual. I think that all poems work best with a strong emotional base.
