Question

I decided on having a wedding at the court house but then we are gonna have a reception and invite everyone to that....I am choosing to write my own invitations and i am curious as to how to work this on the invitation

You have to have separate invitations.

For those you are inviting just to the reception - put at the top when/where you got married, and include the reception info. Make sure you put on the invitation "No gifts, please", since they were not invited to the ceremony.

two thousand and eight

six o'clock in the evening

Golf Shores Country Club

111 Golf Shores Drive

Plano, Texas

Sarah and Michael will be married privately.

Or less formal, something like:

Michael and Sarah (Johnson) Smith

cordially invite you to join them

for a reception celebrating their marriage....

etc., etc., etc.

OR...

Please join family and friends

at a reception to celebrate the marriage of

Sarah Jo Johnson and Michael Thomas Smith

etc., etc., etc.

If someone else will host, although it's at your house:

(Host's/hosts' name(s)

request the pleasure of your company

at a reception to celebrate the marriage of

Sarah Jo Johnson

to

Michael Thomas Smith

etc., etc., etc.

You can say something like, you are invited to the reception of blankity blank. or like explain why u wanted a small wedding. it wont hurt peoples feelings
