In the united states, if you plug in your satellite box to your television the setup menu asks for your zip code and then tells you what direction to point your antenna.  You need a compass to show you that direction from your dish.  It also has markings on the bracket for angle elevation and rotation, also given to you on the menu.  You hook your cable from the dish to the box, and hopefully get some signal.  The setup screen also has a signal meter, so you move the antenna slightly one way or the other to get the best signal.  Then tighten the ajustment screws so the wind doesn't blow it out of line.
