My prescription is plano -1.50 axis 50. I do not have a spherical value in my prescription. I am not nearsighted or farsighted based on what I have read. I just have astigmatism. That is one of the reasons I am really curious to know what the answer to my question is.

  1. I'm not a doctor, but astigmatism is a big word to tell you that your eye ball is not shaped as it's suppose to be. Think of if like this, a normal eye ball should be like a basket ball and an eye with astigmatism is shaped like a football.

Your Rx does not show any astigmatism (if what you wrote is correct)

your prescriptions shows that you are nearsighted with a Axel of 50 degrees. which is a little weird since it should be spherical.

your roommate's prescriptions shows that he's also nearsighted with an astigmatism of -.75 at 180 degrees

your dad's Rx shows that he is farsighted with astigmatism of -1.75 at 80 degrees.

which would make sense since I'm assuming that your roommate is young and your dad is older.

It's common to be farsighted once you get older.

I hope this helps a little

  2. You would be considered a simple myopic astigmat.

Your roommate would be considered a compound myopic astigmat and your dad would be a compound hyperopic astigmat.

If one of the prescriptions was +1.00-1.50x090 that would be considered a mixed astigmat. If you were to put the numbers on an optical cross to show their meridians, you would put +1.00 on the horizontal line and -0.50 (add the two together) on the vertical - since one number is positive (farsighted/hyperopic correction) and one is negative (nearsighted/myopic correction) it is "mixed"

hope that helped and wasn't too confusing
