  1. OH YAY! A FELLOW HOMESCHOOLER!  Okay I would be glad to help.  (I am in geometry right now so you can trust that I know what I am doing).

Ratios are kind of like fractions.  Heres an example:

In a classroom, there are 12 girls and 14 boys.  There is a male teacher and his female teacher's aid.

ratio of females to males:  13:15

there are 12 female students and 1 female teacher which = 13.  There are 14 male students and 1 male teacher which = 15.  Since the ratio is females to males, you place the female number on the left side of the ":" just as it's on the left side of the word "to" so it is 13:15.   If the ratio is males to females, then the answer is 15:13.  If you are suposed to write it in fraction form, it would be written as

    females to males:  13/15

    males to females:  15/13

If you need to find the ration of teachers to students, you would write 2:26  because there is 1 male teacher and 1 female teacher which equals 2 and there are 12 female students and 14 male students which equals 26.

I hope these ezamples helped!  If you need more help, I suggest you get a SAXON math book.  It explains everything really well.  =)

    Have fun, Nick!

And hey, Nick's dad.  Do you know anything about history specifically world war 1?  If you have time could you help me with this problem?  heres the link:  http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?...

I hope you guys do well!  And thank if you do decide to help!

    =)

  2. A ratio is merely a comparison of one set of numbers to another.  For instance, if a classroom has 20 girls and 10 boys, you divide 20 by 10 to get a ratio of 2:1 girls to boys(which is how it is written)  If there are 18 girls and 7 boys, the ratio is 18:7 girls to boys since those numbers cannot be reduced.  The first number is the object you are comparing to something else i.e. girls to boys.

    Hope this helps!
