My six year old goes to kindergarten all day. I email his teacher once in awhile to see how he doing and he has ADHD. I pick him up yesterday to take him to doctor and they told me that he had accident of peeing on himself. This want got email from his teacher..

I was wondering if this happens at home or if this is something he has never done. Which he never did. He was pretty upset when we found him. He probably thought he would be trouble.. If you could work on Trent clean himself better at home that would be great,,

How would you feel about this. I am single mom and that he never done this. He wake up middle of the night to go potty when has to which been long time he need to middle of the night. He has hard time cleaning himself up. but he trys and I have to clean him up good. What they expect a 6 year old do a really good job. He trys but he get frusterated. He cry or be mad. I don't know want to do. I am trying my best on everything.

  1. This is normal, especially A....D.H.D.. I would just pack some extra pants, underwear.Put some diaper wipes too.My daughter used them for a long time. She used to "forget"to go to.Don`t take it personally.

  2. The biggest thing is do not make a big deal about it. If it is because of attention it will feed the problem. As far as him doing it at kindergarden, it is a big transition especially with ADHD. Patients is the key. Keep helping and it will get better.

  3. the teacher sounds incompassionate.  He is just 6.  Accidents happen. She should know.  I am sure he isnt the 1st 6 year old to have an accident.

Love your son and tell him its ok accidents happen

  4. Sounds like your son is doing just fine, due to your care and guidance.

So he had an accident at school.  Big deal!!!  No one should make any child feel ashamed because he had an accident.  As far as cleaning himself, that will come with time.  People forget about the "H" in ADHD.  When you have a "hyper" child, you can almost expect accidents every now and then.  When any child gets excited or really gets involved on the playground, do you think that going to the bathroom is the top priority at the moment? I don't think so!

Even in class ADHD children can get "very involved" with what they are doing if their interest takes them there.  They don't think about anything else at that time.  Thus, "accidents can and will happen.

If the teacher is worried about your son not cleaning himself well enough, then I say she doesn't have enough to do.  You already know this and are taking care of the situation at home.  You can't be at the school every day watching over him every time he goes to the bathroom.

Don't even worry about this, because you're already teaching him better skills in this area at home.  You're doing exactly what you're supposed to be doing.

You have your hands full with all the responsibilities regarding your sons welfare.  Don't worry so much just because your son had an accident at school.  You have enough on your mind with more important issues.

You're doing a good job, keep up the good work.

  5. let it go. its a phase possibly for attention.
