    She will stay a filly until the age of 5, then she will be classified as a mare

    A male horse is a colt when born

    He will remain a colt until the age of 5, where he will be classified as a horse (No joke a 5 year old male is classified as horse)

  5. Well actually a female horse is considred a filly when it is born. However if it has a baby before it is three years old then, when the baby is born it is clasified as a mare. otherwise when it turns three is when it is formally named a mare.
