Question:

How your gestational diabetes was treated (if you were diagnosed)?

I was wondering whether the majority of women with gestational diabetes have to take some medication, or can it be fixed by diet and exercise?

Also - did you feel any symptoms suggesting that you may have diabetes (even before you took the glucose tolerance test)?

  1. I didn't take the glucose tolerance test, I was able to take a simpler, shorter test.  Mine was easily managed with diet and exercise, it takes discipline, but almost every case can be managed by watching what you eat and staying active.

I had no symptoms at all, in fact my doctor was shocked that I had it.  I didn't have any risk factors and didn't have any symptoms at all.

My baby was not effected.  They tested her sugars after she was born and during our hospital stay, but she didn't need any treatment.  She was 8 pounds at almost 2 weeks early, but that's pretty typical in my family.  I am six feet tall and 140 pounds and her dad is 5' 11' and 280 so she fit right in!

  2. I'm 37 weeks and found out I had gestationall diabetes at 17 weeks.  My 1st clue was that I was losing weight.  Diet and exercise was not enough to treat my sugar levels.  I take meds twice a day.  My baby's weight right now is 6.3.

  3. well i take insulin but if its not very high you can control it by diet and exercise. i didn't feel any symptoms at all i still cant tell when i take the insulin. it just makes your baby big if you don't take care of it. so far my they say my baby is 6 pounds but haven't had it yet.

  4. Mine was treated and managed through diet and exercise only. I had no symptoms before pregnancy. But now, 10 years later, I have pre diabetes. It's often  a precursor to future diabetes as you age.

My baby was just under 9 lbs and was healthy and fine. I was vigilant thought about following the dietician's plan and I walked after lunch and dinner.

  5. Mine was helped with dietary changes only.  I didn't realize i had it but knew it would be a strong possibility since most of the woman in my family had it in at least one of their pregnancies.
