ELECTRICITY TESTERS works on the theory that when we place them on a current carying conductor, a small part of thecurrent will pass throuhthr high resistance path(the tester)&complete circuit through our body.but how it is working when we wears footware. you may think its impossible but its true.

  1. Because the return path in this case is capacitive via the whole of your body's surface, not resistive via the soles of the feet.

    Don't worry.  It's a common misconception.


  2. They use insulated probes and there is a rating on the higher quality probes in resistance. Please don't touch the metal part of the probes this will throw out your reading and it is dangerous.

    Thank you, am also fine like you, please dear your self you gave the answer in question form i.e. the used resistor in tester is high valued one means our body resistance + used `R` i.e. your said footware  weared body  resistance + used `R` Its clear that the bulb used in tester will glow only when it should touch the live permissible rated conductor

    so for indicating purpose it is ok.
