Howard Webb to officiate decisive Premier League clash between Manchester United and Chelsea
The referee who officiated the 2010 FIFA World Cup final between http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 and Holland, Howard Webb, will be taking charge of the vital Premier League clash between Manchester United and Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday, 8th May.
The match is shaping up as the biggest game of the Barclays Premier League season so far. Chelsea are currently three points adrift of leaders Manchester United, and a win at Old Trafford would bring both teams level on points. The race for the Premier League crown will be blown wide open, as the ultimate destination of the trophy will then be decided by the final two games of the season.
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been critical of refereeing decisions going against his side in recent months. Speaking after United’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday, the Scot bemoaned referee http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 had earlier gotten away with two controversial goals against Tottenham Hotspur, and Ferguson questioned why the big decisions were going against United recently.
He said, “We’re not going to get the decisions in these big games I’m afraid. They [Chelsea] seem to be getting them. They got one to win the league at Old Trafford last season so that’s a worry. We go into these kind of games worrying about these kind of things.”
However, even he would be pleased to see Howard Webb in charge for the crucial encounter at Old Trafford. Webb is one of the most respected match officials in the business. His appointment as the referee for the 2010 FIFA World Cup final just goes to prove his capabilities.
However, even Webb is not immune to accusations of bias. Former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryan-Babel-c31971 had accused Webb of favouring Manchester United after his side was defeated by the Red Devils earlier in the season.
Let’s just hope that the most important game of the campaign so far is remembered for the football on display, and not for a game-changing blunder on the part of the referee.
