  1. Andy, I am glad you asked that question.  I am mindful that in May 10th the Transcontinental Railroad was realized  at Promintary Point, in 1869.

I understand there is a Hebron Railroad that has excursions and I understand it may be running a 1920s era steam locomotive, ( could it be a Mikado ? the photo indicates Walsherts valve gear).

And as far as I know Utah is very much Union Pacific territrory.

And there are museums in Ogdon.  I will be headed there in August.  Is there anything you can suggest I see within 150 miles of Salt Lake City?

  2. Because we associate Utah with the Mormons and polygamy.  (As much as I like trains, even I have to admit they're more interesting.)

  3. durned if i know, I was in the same seniority district as most of Utah while I was on the UP.

I guess I always thought of Utah as just an obstacle in the great railroad scheme of life, other than the golden spike thing you dont hear much, and that would have happened somewhere anyway.

No big switching yards, no large industry or income bases for railroads, just a couple crew changes. Probably more to it then that but that apparently is the common perception.

I mostly think of high desert, canyons, huge mule deer, and the FLDS.

    Perceptions are hard to shake.
