  1. Name one thing about a car that is healthy? Everything that goes in to cars is made out of material that has been designed for the safety of the passengers and the other drivers on the road. They have tried making things healthier for the mechanics but there is not much you can do until you get rid of petroleum based products all together. That means no more gas, not more oils of any kind, No more plastics, and no more brake pads as we know them. No more rubber bushings. Rubber hoses on cars. Think about everything that is on a car and about 60 percent of what holds it all together has some kind of petroleum in it. Now as to why none of us are appreciated it's because the GP look at us as being crooks, uneducated, and greasy slimy non-human people. But by d**n we better be telepaths and get that nondescript sound resolved other wise we'll take you to court and sue you for every last penny. In a lot of ways I'm glad I'll be retiring in another 5 years. I've done my bit for king and country. Let the son-in-law deal with it now.

  2. For an airplane mechanic... The mechanic gets to have set work hours which allow him/her a life outside of his/her job. (unlike a pilot or flight attendant)  The mechanic has time to refer to "the book" to work out any problems at a leisurely pace. (unlike a pilot who must react on trained instinct in the air)  Although the mechanic's work environment may be messy at times, this tends to be due to the personality trait of the individual mechanic.  Those who take the time to read and follow the MSDS guidelines and follow OSHA and FAA regulations and take the time to be organized can work in a safe and clean environment of their own creation.

  3. Why isn't the teacher appreciated for teaching our childeran?

Why isn't the garbage person appreciated for taking away our trash every week so it doesn't build up?

Why isn't the janitor that picks up after us all keeping our work places clean appreciated?

Why isn't the mail person appreciated for delivering our bills and letters from home?

Why isn't the Aeronautical Engineer appreciated for making sure that aircraft will fly for 40+ years while making sure they are safe, maintainable, buildable, cost effective and optimized for fuel efficiency all at the same time?

For every job there is a person doing it without appreciation. That's the way life is.

As for the hazards of being an aircraft mechanic, get real, you should look at the hazards of some other jobs and see how "hazardous" your job is. Sorry for the bit of reality, but its the truth.

Want proof? Here's the proof (Aircraft mechanics are not even in the top 10. Please note that aircraft Pilots are):

  4. I can't count how many time the pilots and flight crew thanked me. They know that they can't do it alone. The environment is no more unhealty then any other High Tech job.

If you don't LOVE doing the Job, you wouldn't be doing it. It's painful, dirty, your laid off at the drop of a hat, and the hours are LONG.

  5. I always believe that somewhere out there, someone is watching and appreciates our work and to be honest about it, yup somebody recognizes our job and role in the industry.

Work environment is just one of the hazards that goes with the trade, learn to love and live with it and soon it  isn't bothering  anymore. Of course wearing or doing safety paraphernalia helps as much. Doing all the task with safety  and airworthiness being first negates all the hazards that goes with our trade.
