Howcome my betta's gills are turning red?

so lately his gills have been turning a dark red and the water has been getting foggy really fast. i did a water change and it got cloudy within 2 days..i didnt do another water change yet but i will tomorrow. whats wrong with him?

  1. Well My Fish has the Same Problems and Is mostly Because the Fish Is Stressed The water is Probably Cloudy Because Your Giving Him/Her too Much Food.

You're probably in the middle of the nitrogen cycle establishing, which leads to ammonia, and later nitrite, spikes.  Both these compounds are strong irritants and will cause inflammation in the gills.  Frequent water changes are the easiest way to alleviate this problem until the nitrifying bacteria colonize the tank's surfaces.  Getting some live media from an established tank and placing it in your filter would greatly expedite this process, meaning less exposure to toxic compounds for your fish.
