I was looking at a few live trackings, and they more or less move randomly. Have they ever collided?

  1. There is plenty of space up there.Thats why they call it space.

  2. well they have computer systems that keep that from happening and there is probably a good reason for them moving randomly.

  3. They are not moving randomly. They are in planned and controlled orbits and are tracked by the U.S. Air Force Space Command and probably other countries too. Any new satellite to be launched must plan its orbit to not hit other satellites.

  4. There is a grid made of all the satellite paths and it is upkeeped daily. Before an organization launches a satelite, it has to predefine it's route.

  5. tiny floating street signs.

    what's the matter with you?

haven't you ever watched "The Jetsons"?

  6. Up there is rather large, so there is plenty of room for all. Oh BTW satellites do not move randomly I can assure you. I am not aware of any collisions (that were not planned by man as the Chinese did a few of years ago).

  7. They don't colllide because we know where they are.  They don't collide because they orbit in very different orbits in very different altitudes.  There is a lot of room between them. The only collision in space was when an unmanned Soviet resupply ship collided with the Mir space station it was trying to dock with. The apporach was too fast for the ground controller to stop it's momentum.  It caused minor damage to both vehicles, but it was able to dock and the supplies were transferred without incident.  There has been no collision between unmanned satellites in space.  Or if there was, the Russians aren't talking.
