  1. Most likely either a friend who went on a People to People trip or a teacher turned your name in to the People to People Organization.

Unless you go, I don't think just being invited would mean that much on a college application.  Even going, probably wouldn't mean that much either, you'd get higher marks for doing service work with some local community organization or your church for ALL of you highschool years, and doing acitivities in clubs or sports during all 4 years of high school.

My daughter was invited to a People to People informational meeting re; a trip to Australia....we never found out who turned her name in.  She ended up going on the trip, and had a great time.

Once you have gone on a People to People trip as an Ambassador ( that is what one is called )  you or your parents will get a letter asking you to give the organization names of students you think would be interested in going.

People to People is a top notch organization.  Part of the speciality of Pto P is they spend some time in a family's home.  I just wished this had been much more....she got to stay for 2 days with a family, the rest of the 2 week trip was spent on glorious sight seeing.  Because it is a first rate organization I think they can get into certain sight seeing places easier, or give you a closer look at things/places that a regular tourist might not get to do/see....not everything, but definitely some things.

P to P stresses you are an Ambassador for the United States, they clearly won't put up with foolishness by students on the trip....it was stressed that if you did some major infraction they wouldn't hesitate to put you on the first available plane back to the US.  My daughter's tour  was chaparoned by teachers, and was as far as I could see was first rate, a top notch vacation trip which cost a fair amount.

But I don't think it gave her any edge by putting it down on her college app. She did more things with her church youth group  ( which she wrote about for her college essay )  and activities in high school.
