Hi people, i just got into Barrel Racing and i can already lope around the Barrels, is it good/ok to hold the horn i dont but i was loping a figure 8 around 2 barrels that were maybe 12 ft apart, but i still did really good for my first time!! So now i understand how hard it is, cuz if you barely loose focus it also throws your horse off! So should i hold the horn when i start going at a full gallop? Im currently taking lessons...from a 15-16 year old who Barrel races! I need tips before i buy a horse this summer!! I would love to get into barrels and be able to run a 14 easily! Im an experianced rider, where would i find Barrels for Barrel Racing?? I need barrels but i know they have to be 55 gallons, where would i find them? Thank you

  1. Hold your reins with with both hands as you approach your 1st barrel. make your pocket (your friend should no wat that is) As you go into your pocket you grab the horn to help your self sit down into your saddle. you want a deep seat when you turn a barrel. Do this as you approach every barrel. if you run to the right barrel first...when you are fixing your pocket reach down with your right hand and "stir the soup'' (your friend should no that term as well) kick with your outside leg and grip with your inside. do the same on your left barrel just with the opposite hand and leg. HOPE THIS HELPS! GOOD LUCK!!!!

  2. Holding onto the horn is a yes. I do it and I watch almost everyone else do it. Just pull your horse around with your inside hand and hold on with your outside hand. It helps a lot with balance. I have no idea where to get barrels. I have some but I don't know where they came from. They have been sitting in my yard for years. LOL

  3. make them.. your handy right?
