Howizee likely to crush his rivals in Handicap Hurdle – Kelso Preview
Howizee looks to be in the most favourable position to finish first in Clelands Jaguar Handicap Hurdle at the Kelso racecourse, on Monday, April 2.
The Class 4 contest over 2m6f110y distance is scheduled to start at 17:00 (GMT).
For a prize money of £2,599, the Maurice Barnes-trained gray gelding will compete against Rudemeister, Seedless, Easement, Malin Bay, Ruff Diamond and Higgy´s Boy.
Howizee will break from Trap 6 and is likely to show a strong run, in a bid to outplay his rivals to make his way towards victory, convincingly.
The six-year-old veteran horse has won 2 out of his total 13 starts to date. After picking an epic triumph on December 9, 2011, at the Doncaster track, he moved forward to attain the second success of his career on February 28, 2012.
The talented gelding last ran at Kelso in the last month of the last year. It was his only outing at the venue, where he is going to run for the Handicap Hurdle title.
Howizee’s chances to finish first in today’s marathon are as high as 90 percent, provided he reads the ground condition properly and uses it to his favour.
The bookmakers have hinged high hopes with the favourite gelding and his trainer also seems to be highly confident of his success.
The only competitor, who can give a tough time to Howizee, is Rudemeister.
The Andrew Parker-trained bay gelding excellently grabbed third position in a race on January 1, 2012.
He went on to finish first in the very next outing during the same month, and then earned a runner-up rank in his last outing on March 17.
Seedless is also likely to perform well in the race.
Donald McCain’s brown mare finished 2nd at Kelso on December 4, 2011.
She managed to grab the top position in her last start on January 6, 2012. Overall, she has won 3 out of her total 20 starts to date.
In this situation, a tough tug of war is expected.
