Recently I my hp pavillion 8000 laptop was running very hot to the touch around the touchpad and there was the smell of burning electrical components. I am aware of the heating problems with the laptop and have a cooling platform for it to sit on, but this did not help this time because it was extremely hot. It only took ten minutes before the laptop abruptly turned off. On the other side of the touchpad is the location of the battery, so I wonder if this was the source of the problem. I am aware too of the short term life and the other problems associated with the battery of this laptop (Hp really put out a crappy product and I will never again buy one from them). Now when I try to power up, the blue light on the front indicating AC power comes on, then when I push the start button it will run for about five to ten seconds, then go dead.
