Hp compaq d220 MT loading screen freeze up

Question

whenever i turn my computer on everything starts up ok but when it get to the black screen that says Windows xp etc, it starts loading for a second or two then freezes up. I've had this problem before in the past and all i did was restart the computer to fix it. I haven't downloaded or installed anything recently (last time being 2-3 weeks ago). If anyone could help me solve my problem that would be great!
