  1. Having high risk HPV types mean that you have abnormal cell changes on your cervix.  A Pap smear looks for abnormal cell changes…and when they are found a second test is done confirming that your abnormal cells are due to high risk HPV types.  Having high risk HPV types mean you have one or more of the high risk HPV types that are seen in cancer.  Having a high risk HPV types does not mean that your virus will progress to a cancer.  Virtually all cervical cancers are due to a persistent progressive high risk HPV progressing to a cancer.  Most women do build immunity to their HPV type…some women will need treatments to remove the abnormal cell changes…this may help the body recognize the virus and fight it.  This link will help you understand cervical cell changes, and the standard of care treatments if needed for the virus.

The HPV test does not screen for specific HPV types.

If you have had s*x with your partner…then he shares your HPV type even though he probably does not show any signs or symptoms.  Men are often carriers of the virus not showing any signs.  Fast forward a bit…if you and this partner were to break up then he may transmit his HPV types to a new partner…and you could acquire a new HPV type with a new partner…condoms do help in the transmission but do not provide 100% protection.

Once you acquire an HPV type you can’t get that time again…you and your partner will not ping pong the virus back and forth…but it may take some time for your body to recognize the virus…there is no set time frame…most build immunity within 2 years some don’t.

You can transmit the virus with a condom.  Condoms do help in the regression of the virus.  Using condoms after a treatment is good…this may help keep the body from being exposed to your shared HPV type…allowing your body more time to recognize the virus and build immunity.

Yes, you partner could acquire your HPV during oral sex…and you might acquire his unseen HPV type in your oral area….they are test that can help your dentist recognize these cell changes…ask your dentist about these test…a dentist is your first line of defense in recognizing oral precancer lesions.  To learn more:

You can do some things that may help your body fight the virus…studies have showing that eating lots of green…broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage help, limit stress – getting good sleep, exercise, limit alcohol and using condoms…even in a committed relationship until you have two clear Paps....a good multi-vitamin rich in folic acid.

    I wish you well.

  2. You know there's something called spell check and punctuation.

  3. genital warts you can get them with out a comdom if your partner is a carrier a condom does reduce the chances tho and also you cant get them in the mouth by the way it is one of the main causes of cervical cancer check this site out http://www.cdc.gov/std/HPV/STDFact-HPV.h...

  4. Why were you told you are high risk? You would only be high risk if you are sleeping around and not using protection. If you are in a monogamous relationship and you are both free of stds you will be fine.
