I'm really scared, because I heard there are NO SURVIVORS of Alzheimer's, and my grandpa may have it because he forgets when he eats. And my dad, please, I don't want my dad to forget, and just..die. I'm just 13, but I've done a good deal of research on medical science even though I want to be a singer. So I heard they don't yet know the exact cause of it, but they've found stuff that MIGHT help prevent it, but I'm hoping to find out something that will really help reduce the chances of my dad getting it. Why do I think he might get it? Because he says he's been forgetting a lot lately. He says he feels a lot of the stuff he used to remember he has forgotten. I'm scared, somebody please help me, I want to know how I can prevent it from happening to my dad, because I don't want him to end up like my grandpa!

  1. you're only 13, usually MUCH older people get that so I wouldn't worry about it now. and I don't really think theres anything you can do it about.

  2. No cure for it, my dads in the final stages. They only have medicine they claim takes a year to even start to work, sounds like a rip off to me. Nothing has slowed his progression sadly, not easy to deal with, for either party involved.

  3. The first thing to remember there is no proof that Alzheimer's is hereditary. If your Grandpa has it then it doesn't mean that anyone in your family will get it. My Mom has Alzheimer's and no one else in our family has it.  So don't worry about your Dad, besides he is too young.

    He maybe just worried about your Grandpa, busy with work and looking after you. I am like that too and forget little things because I am so busy running after my kids and looking after my Mom. Stress can make you forget things too.

    First your Grandpa should be tested for other diseases. He may have a lack certain vitamins or have a thyroid condition that is making him forgetful.

    Some of the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease are:

    * Loss of memory

    * Loss of language skills

    * Loss of co-ordination

    * Loss of ability to recognize familiar things

    To prevent Alzheimer's the advice is to have a healthy diet and keep your brain active with crosswords, puzzles, reading, card games etc. So relax and enjoy yourself and ask your Dad for advice and how you can help your Grandpa. It will be ok, I am sure.

  4. I read in a magazine a while ago that if you do things like playing cards, crosswords, etc.- just keeping your mind busy and not being idle- will help delay it.
