Hsiao Huan Chen topples Milicent Wiranto in first round clash at Singapore International series
Chinese Taipei’s impressive shuttler Hsiao Huan Chen proved her supremacy on court when she toppled Indonesia’s Milicent Wiranto in Women’s Singles first round clash at the Li-Ning Singapore International Challenge 2012 in Singapore, on Wednesday, August
15.
The higher ranked Hsiao Huan, who is seventh seed in Women’s Singles draw, played tremendous badminton in her first battle in the tournament and ousted Milicent without losing any game to her.
The in-form Hsiao Huan was in dominating position throughout the fight as she played with aggression and sent her rival packing by finishing off the match in straight games with a reasonable margin on the board.
In the meanwhile, the lower ranked Milicent played well in both games of the match but remained struggling in the ending points and eventually bowed down to Hsiao Huan without grabbing any set.
In the first game, Milicent put up superb resistance against her higher ranked Taipei rival and did not let her build a comfortable lead at the early stage.
On the other hand, Hsiao Huan played to her maximum speed but failed to create pressure on her rival and also could not establish lead on score board until the one-minute break.
After the mid-game interval, Hsiao Huan changed her tactics and started to play safe badminton in order to avoid negative points.
The higher ranked Hsiao Huan played with aggression in the ending points of first set and managed to win the opening battle with a close 21-19 margin on the score board.
In the second game, Milicent tried to avoid unforced errors and played safe badminton but failed to stop the progress of Hsiao Huan who started to pace the rallies.
However, Hsiao Huan could not set up a reasonable lead until the end of first half in second set.
After the interval, Hsiao Huan geared up her speed and dominated the pace of rallies from all areas. She commanded the rallies in the ending points and won the set with a reasonable margin of 21-18.
The seventh seeded Hsiao Huan defeated Milicent in straight sets with a decent 21-19 and 21-18 score on the board.
