Hsiao Ma Pai ousts Lindaweni Fanetri to surge into main round of Indonesia Open Premier Super Series
Chinese Taipei’s Hsiao Ma Pai booked her place into the Women’s Singles main round after beating Indonesia’s Lindaweni Fanetri in the qualifying round of the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2011. The match was held in Indonesia, on Tuesday, June 21.
World Number 54, Hsiao Ma, took 61 minutes of hard labour to brush aside Lindaweni, in a thrilling fight which took three sets of top-class badminton from both shuttlers.
In the opening set of the qualifying-round match, Hsiao Ma played a shaky game as she failed to handle the pace of the game. She was trailing behind the Indonesian by reaching 8-11, at the interval of the opening set.
After the break, Lindaweni played attacking badminton and dictated the pace of the rallies. She was playing a flawless game and her shot selection and execution of strokes was impressive. Hsiao Ma could not play positively and lost the first set by a six-point
margin of 15-21, in 19 minutes.
In the second set, Hsiao Ma bounced back in the match by employing variations in her strokes. She dominated the game and made her opponent work hard to lift the bird from the net. Her perfectly placed strokes earned the Chinese Taipei shuttler with a dominating
position in the set.
Lindaweni tried to break the flow of Hsiao Ma, but failed to control the game. The Chinese Taipei player delivered a superb performance and was successful in winning the second game by a margin of 21-16, in 20 minutes.
In the third game, both shuttlers displayed their skills to earn a strong position in the match. However, no one could manage a good lead until the second-half of the game. Hsiao Ma changed her tactics by putting more variations in her strokes and grabbed
the final game by a 21-16 difference, in 22 minutes.
Hsiao Ma proved that she has elevated her skill level by winning the entertaining rubber-set match of 61 minutes with a score of 15-21, 21-16 and 21-16.
