Hsieh Chi-Hsien plans to keep the top spot in the ADT Order of Merit
Hsieh Chi-Hsien of Chinese Taipei is set to record another victory on the Asian Development Tour (ADT), when he tees off at this week’s PGM Sarawak Masters, slated to start from Thursday, October 4, 2012.
The 22-year-old made it to the ADT by competing in the Q-School, held in Thailand, earlier this year in January.
Right after that, he decided to turn professional and marked his presence in the world of golf by winning the Ballantine’s Taiwan Championship.
The tournament featured some of the big names from Asia, including the Asian Tour winners, Yeh Wei-Tze and Chan Yih-Shin. The victory also allowed the Taiwanese to surge to the top of ADT Order of Merit.
This week, he wants to keep his hopes alive for making it to the bigger stage, the Asian Tour, with another strong finish at the Sarawak Golf Club in Kuching.
According to the Asian Tour’s qualification criteria, the top-three players from the ADT will get automatic berths for the 2013 season.
“I’m aiming to finish in the top-three to get my Asian Tour card. That’s my main goal. The ADT is very good. It is awesome because young players like me will get a chance to gain more experience. The win in Taipei will definitely give me more confidence”.
He is now regarded as one of the future golf stars from Taiwan and is praised by many of his senior compatriot players.
The multiple-Asian Tour winner Lin Wen-tang also hailed the youngster’s performance in the past few months and regarded him as a star in the making.
“He is very dedicated to the game and works hard. I am not surprised to see him leading the ADT Order of Merit,” said Lin, who was beaten by Hsieh in the Ballantine’s Taiwan Championship.
This week, some of the top-rated players in Malaysia will make their appearance in the tournament, namely Shaaban Hussin, Iain Steel, Nicholas Fung, Sukree Othman, R. Nachimuthu and S. Siva Chandhran.
Chandhran will be a man to watch in Malaysia, as he has a strong track record on the tour, including a finish on the top of the list in the inaugural 2010 season.
