Hsieh Chi-Hsien takes second spot on day one of the Mercuries Taiwan Masters
Hsieh Chi-Hsien carded a two-under par 70 in the opening round of the Mercuries Taiwan Masters, to take the second position on the leaderboard, on Thursday, September 27, 2012.
Chi-Hsien turned professional earlier this year and recorded his name in the history books by winning the Ballantine’s Taiwan Championship in August.
The win also allowed him surge to the top of the Asian Development Tour (ADT) Order of Merit. This week, he plans to prove his mettle by recording a strong finish on a difficult Taiwan Golf & Country Club.
The venue course for this week’s Asian Tour event is considered as one of the toughest golf courses in Chinese Taipei.
Therefore, Chi-Hsien’s performance on day one was an impressive one, as he recorded four birdies against two bogeys to settle four strokes behind the leader Lien Chi-Wei.
According to the golf commentators, Chi-Hsien tried not to go aggressive on the course, which paid him off in the end.
Throughout the day, he tried to play safe and avoided attacking the pins. As a result, it was really easy for him to save the pars in the end.
Moreover, his short game also helped him post a decent score on the leaderboard, considering the fact that only four players managed to break the par mark in the morning session.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he himself admitted that the conditions were really tough on day one. However, he likes the overall layout of the course.
“This course is very difficult and the rough is very thick but somehow I feel very comfortable playing here. I like this golf course. The layout is very interesting,” said the 22-year-old.
Talking about his win on the ADT, he stated that the victory helped him boost his morale for the higher stage.
“I’m feeling more confident after my win. That win really made me a better player. The ADT is very good. It is awesome because young players like me will get a chance to gain more experience,” said Hsieh.
Lin Wen-Tang, in the meantime, shared the seventh position with Hsieh Chin-Sheng, after posting a one-under par 71.
