Men’s Singles event of Yonex Sunrise India Open got its first quarter-finalist when Hsu Jen Hao of Chinese Taipei overpowered Vladimir Ivanov in second round match on April 26, 2012.
World Number 35 shuttler Jen Hao passed an exhausting 54-minute test with distinctive margin of 21-10, 16-21 and 22-20.
However, it was not smooth sailing for him as the Russian campaigner put a great show of supreme craft on the court and took this game all the way to three sets.
The first set of match was completely dominated by the Taipei shuttler who registered his class despite of having a sluggish start.
In the beginning, Jen Hao stayed at the lower end as his opponent placed decent total of seven but he bounced back with seven consecutive points and ended first half by registering notable margin of 11-7.
After the interval, Jen Hao continued with his attacking badminton and took his total to 17 with some uninterrupted rallies. He bagged first match point with scoreboard flashing final figures of 21-10.
Next game set the aggressive tone of remaining part of match as Vladimir Ivanov brought life back into match by clinching the crucial set.
The Russian launched a brisk attack and pushed his higher ranked rival on the back-foot by establishing four-point advantage in no time.
He registered notable margin of 11-4 before the interval which helped him to enter in court with great confidence after the mid-game break.
Though, Jen Hao created a bit of pressure in the last stages by reaching 16 points quickly but it was not enough to stop Vladimir from clinching second set with decisive margin of 21-16.
The decider turned consequential as both contenders were level with 1-1 match score and they displayed top class badminton.
In first half of third set, Jen Hao was five points ahead of his challenger but the Russian accelerated his pace to reach 11-10 before half time.
After one-minute break both players remained close until game point situation but the Taipei shuttler sealed his victory by registering concluding margin of 22-20. Jen Hao will be looking to carry his winning momentum to the quarter-finals.
