Hsu Jen Hao stuns Boonsak Ponsana in Thomas Cup Preliminary Round – Badminton news
Chinese Taipei’s ace Hsu Jen Hao proved his mettle against higher ranked Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand and won his fight in the team-event encounter at the Thomas Cup Preliminary Round on Sunday, February 19, in Macau.
The Chinese Taipei squad thrashed their Thai opponents in all fights and bagged this contest with a fabulous margin of 5-0.
In the opening Men’s Singles fight, Taipei’s World Number 32 Jen Hao was up against Thailand’s top shuttler Ponsana, who is currently placed at number 20 in Men’s Singles world placements.
Jen Hao stunned Ponsana with his impressive skills and won the fight in three games by consuming 48 minutes in the court.
In the opening game, Ponsana was the first who took a reasonable lead by reaching at 7-3. However, he could not control the pace of rallies and lost his upper hand in the game as his rival levelled the score at 9-9. Until the break, the score was quite close.
After the one-minute interval, Jen Hao took over the control and dictated the pace of rallies. He continued his positive and aggressive performance and won the opening game with a four-point advantage of 21-17.
In the second game, both contestants showed their aggression and remained close in the opening rallies. Ponsana managed to put pressure on Jen Hao and reached at 9-5.
Nevertheless, Jen Hao again geared up his speed and levelled the score at 9-9. Until the one-minute break, he was just behind on the score board by reaching at 10-11.  
After the break, Ponsana remained in control this time as he did not let his rival to play dominating badminton. On the other hand, Jen Hao failed to level the score in the concluding half and lost the set with a margin of 18-21.
In the decider, the score remained close in the first part as both men employed their aggressive skills and played to their maximum potential. However, Jen Hao managed a reasonable lead of 11-8 until the break.
After the break, the Taipei shuttler remained ahead on the score board by playing positive and planned game. He remained on track and won the deciding set with a sensational margin of 21-13.
Jen Hao emerged as the winner of this rubber-set contest with a 21-17, 18-21 and 21-13 score on the board.
