Hsu Mong-Nan leads the PGM Eastwood Valley Masters after day one
Hsu Mong-Nan of Chinese Taipei fired a six-under par 66 in the opening round of the inaugural PGM Eastwood Valley Masters, to take the lead, on Wednesday, October 31, 2012.
The $80,000 event is being played at the Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club, featuring some of the best players on the Asian Development Tour.
Mong-Nan got off to a slow start, as he carded only one birdie on the front nine to reach the turn with a one-under par score.
He then picked up some pace on the back nine and posted five birdies to finish the day one stroke better than Filipino Jay Bayron.
Throughout the day, he kept on playing some good shots on the course and did not concede a single bogey.
Park Jin-Woo, Hirotaro Naito and Sukree Othman were tied for the third spot, after scoring a three-under par 69 each.
Taking to the reporters, he stated that his accuracy off the tee helped him attack the greens throughout the day.
As a result, he managed to create a number of birdie chances, which he capitalised through his superb putting technique.
“I was driving the ball so good. It gave me a chance to attack the greens, which was nice. I played very well and I’m happy with the result,” said the 38-year-old, who finished second at the Ballantine’s Taiwan Championship on the ADT in August.
Despite making a hot start on day one, the Taiwanese star does not want to become overconfident.
According to him, he will have to play a consistent game in the remaining rounds in order to remain on the top, especially when there are a number of big players participating in the event.
“There are so many good players here so it won’t be easy to win. I just need to stay patient and hope to continue my form,” he said.
Bayron, in the meantime, was also pleased with his overall performance on day one.
“It was not easy. This is such a difficult golf course. I’m quite lucky to have made some big putts. It was good to get off to a strong start,” said Bayron, currently third on the ADT Order of Merit.
