Hsuan Yi Hsueh ousts Kevin Cordon in quarter-final of the US Open GP Gold 2011
Chinese Taipei’s Hsuan Yi Hsueh proved his worth as he has stopped the winning run of Guatemala’s Kevin Cordon by defeating him in the Men’s Singles quarter-final of the US Open GP Gold 2011, in California, USA, on Thursday, July 14.
Hsuan Yi played at his best against Cordon and was successful in reserving his place in the Men’s Singles semi-final of the US Open. It was one of the best matches of the day, as both shuttlers remained toe-to-toe for 54 minutes and three-sets, where Hsuan
Yi won the final game with a tight difference.
The first game of this Men’s Singles quarter-final battle was breathtaking, as both players pushed each other by playing at the same level throughout the set. Until the one-minute break, Cordon was ahead at 11-10 against a spirited Hsuan Yi, who was playing
to his full strength.
After the break, both players entertained the crowd with their superb skills in the second part of the set. The score was 21-21, where Hsuan Yi made a critical mistake which cost him the opening game with a margin of 21-23, in 20 minutes.
However, Hsuan Yi played better in the second set of the match as he committed no error and levelled the contest by winning the game with a wonderful score of 21-14, in just 15 minutes. Cordon failed to maintain his control over the bird in this game, which
helped Hsuan Yi to dominate the rallies.
The third and final game was a wonderful show of quality badminton, as both players progressed closely in the first-half of the set. The score remained tied until the ending points of the final set, where the Taipei shuttler played wonderful badminton and
clinched the game by a 21-19 difference, in 19 minutes. The match ended in 54 minutes with a 21-23, 21-14 and 21-19 score on the board.
In the semi-final, Hsuan Yi will meet Sho Sasaki of Japan, who crushed Thai shuttler, Boonsak Ponsana in the quarter-final match of the event.
