Hsueh Hsuan Yi beats Tien Chen Chou to claim Men’s Singles title in the 2011 Dutch Open Grand Prix
Chinese Taipei’s Hsueh Hsuan Yi claims Men’s Singles title as he defeated his compatriot, Tien Chen Chou in the final of the 2011 Dutch Open Grand Prix, on Sunday, October 16, at Almere, Netherlands.
Hsuan Yi, who was the seventh seed in the Men’s Singles main draw of the Dutch Open, played top quality badminton against Chen Chou and managed to win the battle after fighting hard for three games of 66 minutes. The un-seeded shuttler failed to make play
dominating game in the final set and lost the match.
In the first game of the match, the un-seeded Chen Chou played stunning badminton against his higher ranked team-mate and got an advantage by winning the set. However, Hsuan Yi came back strongly to level the match by winning the second game.
In the final game, the World Number 40 Hsuan Yi spared no chance for his opponent and bagged the game to win the title.
The start of the match was interesting when both country-mates put up a phenomenal show of superb badminton as they played complete game. Their powerful smashes, pushes and net shots pushed them closely in the game. However, Hsuan Yi made a few crucial mistakes
in the end and lost the game with a score of 18-21.
In the following set, the higher ranked Hsuan Yi showed no mercy to Chen Chou and dominated the game by playing with an aggressive style. He missed no chance to smash the bird down on the side lines of the court. His attacking play helped him to clinch the
game with a margin of 21-15.
The deciding game was one-sided in the first half when Hsuan Yi established an early lead and maintained it until the concluding phase. Chen Chou lifted up his level of play but it was too late as Hsuan Yi finished off the final game with a 21-16 score.
This three-set final contest ended with the victory of Hsuan Yi with a margin of 18-21, 21-15 and 21-16.
