Hsueh Hsuan Yi makes his mark over Arif Ramadhan to surge into round-of-16: Indonesia Open GP Gold
Chinese Taipei’s Hsueh Hsuan Yi proved his elite skills as he surged into the Men’s Singles round-of-16 after beating Indonesia’s Arif Ramadhan in second round of the 2011 Indonesia Open GP Gold, on Thursday, September 29, in Indonesia.
Hsuan Yi, who is placed at Number 46 in the Men’s Singles world standings, played top-class badminton against the young and spirited Indonesian to win the match in three games by working hard for 53 minutes.
In the first set, Ramadhan was the shuttler to watch out for in the whole indoor arena as he was playing impressive badminton with a wonderful touch of aggression. His jumping smashes were landing in the perfect areas of his opponent. At the end of the first-half,
the Indonesian reached at 11-8.
After the interval, Hsuan Yi tried to bridge the difference but failed as Ramadhan was not missing any chance of scoring points. The Taipei shuttler played some wrong shots in the ending points and lost the game in 18 minutes, with a 16-21 score on the board.
However, Hsuan Yi played a planned and focused game in the second set of the match as he controlled the pace from the opening points. The wonderful defensive strokes of the Taipei shuttler helped him in creating a gap of 11-8 in the first-half.
Hsuan Yi continued his attacking and positive play after the break and maintained wonderful pace until the end of the second game. He clinched the set in 19 minutes with the margin of 21-16.
In the deciding game, Ramadhan tried to cope up with the pace of his challenger but failed as Hsuan Yi was playing controlled and safe badminton. He won the third set in 16 minutes with the score of 21-14.
This second round match ended in three games with the result of 16-21, 21-16 and 21-14 in 53 minutes. In the Men’s Singles round-of-16, Hsuan Yi will be up against Alamsyah Yunus of Indonesia who defeated team-mate, Andre Marteen in the second round.
