Hu Yadan dominates preliminary rounds of Women's 10m Platform meet – 2011 World Diving Championships
Hu Yadan of China impressed the Shanghai Aquatic arena by dominating the Women’s 10m Platform diving meet on the fifth day of the 2011 World Championships on Wednesday, July 20.
The 15-year-old Yadan earned a top score of 382.25 points in the qualifying rounds to enter the final as the top diver of the Women’s 10m discipline. Her scintillating performance in the 10m event has aroused hopes of Chinese fans, as her victory in the
final round will contribute a sixth gold medal to China’s medal tally.
She was 11.95 points ahead of her closest competitor, Ruolin Chen of China, who followed her into the final rounds with an astonishing effort of 370.30 points. The third best qualification spot was secured by Meaghan Benefeito of Canada, who failed to overcome
Ruolin’s effort, with a difference of 33.10 points and qualified as the third best diver, by gaining 336.90 points.
The fourth best spot was occupied by Pandelela Rinong of Malaysia, who stayed almost six points behind the Canadian diver and earned a score of 330.70 points to enter into the final rounds. In the meantime, Mexican diver, Paola Espinosa, made his way towards
the final round, by claiming the fifth best qualification spot with a score of 328.35 points. He was followed by Benefeito’s team-member, Roseline Filion, who failed to overcome Espinosa’s effort with a difference of only 4.15 points and entered the finals
as the sixth qualifying diver, with a score of 324.20 points.
The seventh qualification spot was secured by Mai Nakagawa of Japan, who was only 0.35 points behind the Mexican diver, as he achieved a score of 304.00 points. The eighth qualification spot was clinched by Nora Subschinski of Germany, who managed a score
of 289.50 points.
The arena enjoyed the extraordinary efforts of all athletes, who put in their best dives to qualify to the final rounds. In addition, the session concluded after the qualifying rounds, while these finalists will compete with each other in the final round
to secure a podium finish.
