Hu Yun ousts Nguyen Tien Minh to continue his winning streak in Badminton Asia Championships 2012
Hong Kong’s Hu Yun continued his roller-coaster performance and stormed into Men’s Singles quarter-final after beating Nguyen Tien Minh of Vietnam in the round-of-16 battle at Badminton Asia Championships 2012 in China, on Thursday, April 19.
The World Number 21 Yun, who is 12th seeded shuttler in the tournament, played remarkable badminton against the seventh seed Tien Minh, who has been positioned at number 10 in world rankings.
Yun, who has been playing remarkable game in the whole tournament, continued his hunting at the pre-quarter-final stage and ousted Tien Minh in three-set contest.
On the other hand Tien Minh played well but failed to dictate the pace against his lower ranked shuttler and crashed out without putting up a strong impact.
Yun played tremendous game in opening set as he did not let Tien Minh to take charge of rallies at any stage and remained close in the first half.
After the one-minute interval, Yun continued playing positive badminton and remained equal to his higher ranked Vietnamese opponent.
The score was 21-21 when Yun showed his class and wrapped up two consecutive points to bag the set with a thrilling 23-21 score on the board.
It was a different story in the second set when Tien Minh showed his brilliance and took over the control from his lower ranked challenger. He played aggressive badminton and took a sensational lead until the mid-game break.
After the interval, Yun tried to bridge the gap but failed to dominate the pace of rallies this time and lost the set with a completely one-sided manner by a 5-21 score on the board.
In the deciding set, both men showed their superb skills and remained close on the board in the opening half.
After the break, Yun played with precision and did not let his higher ranked opponent to take control of the game.
The 12th seed Yun remained on track in the entire game and took it impressively with a 21-17 margin on the board.
The Hong Kong shuttler won the contest in three games of 63 minutes with a remarkable margin of 23-21, 5-21 and 21-17.
