Huan Gao, one of the most talented back-up shuttlers from China, stretched his staggering run and stormed into Men’s Singles semi-final after putting up superb show against his higher ranked Indonesian challenger Tommy Sugiarto in quarter-final match at
Indonesia Open GP Gold Badminton 2012 on Friday, September 28, in Indonesia.
The in-form Huan, who entered into the court as an underdog against his third seeded Indonesian rival, played to his maximum speed and eventually emerged as the winner in a thrilling fashion.
Huan utilised his elevated skills in the most effective fashion as he kept the pace of rallies high and spared no chance for his local opponent to put up strong show.
The Chinese shuttler remained successful in stamping his mark over Sugiarto in a thrilling rubber set contest that lasted for 72 minutes.
On the other hand, the World Number 22 Sugiarto played well but failed to live up to expectations of his home fans and went down to his lower ranked Chinese rival in a good fight that took three games of attacking badminton from both sides.
The opening game was shocking for Sugiarto as his rival played attacking badminton from starting rallies and managed to set up a wonderful lead of 11-7 until the end of first half.
After the break, Sugiarto lifted up his level of play as he employed his powerful smashes and levelled the score at 12-12.
Nevertheless, Huan again controlled the affairs by gearing up his speed in all areas and took the set with a 21-16 score on the board.
In the second game, Sugiarto showed his brilliance on court and cheered his home fans by setting up decent lead until the break.
After the interval, Huan tried his best but failed to put up strong resistance and eventually lost the second game with a 15-21 score on the board.
In the deciding set, Huan showed aggression in opening half and took a four-point lead until the end of first half by reaching at 11-7.
After the break, Sugiarto managed to level the score but failed to stop Huan from winning the set with a comfortable margin of 21-16.
Huan emerged as the winner in this sensational quarter-final contest in 72 minutes with a 21-16, 15-21 and 21-16 margin on the board.
