The ceiling fan will not turn on and the tv is turning itself off and back on. Last week he also removed an oven hood that was direct wired. Can anyone advise, please, on what we should do next? I know..call and electrician. He probably won't do that. He's a real DIYer.

  3. the tv is whats killing me on this one did he seperate the wires at the end he cut that could be causing a short

  4. Since he did it he can now be like your buttler and does everything for you. Watch T.V shoes on youtube.

  5. You're lucky he didn't burn the house down, call in a professional to correct the problems.

  6. Make him do all the dishes himself.

Make him be your personal fan boy.

And the TV hmm, you still have internet so no worries.

  7. Find the breakers for the stove, dishwasher, and (oven hood)fan (double breaker or two fuses for stove), find the breaker/fuse for the dishwasher, and then fan, turn all of these off (Fuse, turn fuse out all the way to turn off circuit), if they are tripped (off) Fuse open (Blown, open etc), leave as is, make sure power is off. Now with power off, remove wires at electrical boxes, tape each wire or marrette them so they don't short together, put them back into the electrical box, and fasten cover. Turn on power to breakers, or replace fuse, fuses and other outlets should work. When he cut the wires he shorted them out, tripping the breakers, or fuses. Don't turn power back on till the wires are all capped off (marrettes/tape) separated, and boxed in. When I assume the new dishwasher, stove and overhead fan goes in, get one of his friends to help him hook it up if he knows what he is doing.

  8. Ok you said direct wired, I'm guess that these devices aren't on their own circuits but sharing it with other outlets. You know how on a xmas tree, the lights are wired in a row, so if one bulb fails, the rest do? Well a house's wiring is the same way, outlets are wired in a row. We use electric outlets because they allow wiring (a plug) to bed "tapped" into the electricity flow, while the outlet itself keeps an always flowing connection to the outlets down the line. What he may have done (since it wasn't in an outlet) was by taking out the dishwasher, killed the outlets down the line. The first troubleshoot is to wire back in both devices. If it works that's your cause. So what you'll have to do is wire in an outlet to continue the flow, or you'll have to get the wire tied back into the system. I'll be waiting for anymore details.

  9. First of all, take all his tools and throw them away. Next, he probably cut through the circuit that is feeding the fan and dishwasher. So all YOU have to do is repair the wire, after of course, you check the circuit breaker to see if it is tripped. Probably is. It will trip again if the circuit is still shorted. Good luck
