Huber/ Raymond, Mirza/ Vesnina move into Women’s Doubles quarterfinal – Wimbledon Championships 2011
Third seeded Americans, Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond swat past German American pair of Angelique Kerber and Christina McHale with a bagel and a breadstick at Women’s Doubles – Wimbledon Championships 2011, a Grand Slam event held
in London, England. They lost only a single game to cruise into the quarter-finals on Tuesday.
The American duo displayed perfect co-ordination to register an assuring 6-1, 6-0 score line at All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club against the unseeded pair. Huber and Raymond took less than an hour to secure a last eight
spot at this major grass court event.
The seeds blasted into the opening set at Court Number Three and hammered massive forehands to earn a breadstick in the opening set.
Huber and Raymond then perfected their co-ordination in the final set as they barely sweated to reel off all six games in a row and sealed the set with a bagel.
Overall, they clobbered a much better first serve share, capitalise on the many unforced errors their opponent’s committed and slammed several winners to chocolate coat their victory.
The pair is in awesome run of form this tournament as they breezed into this spot after earning breadsticks and bagels. They triumphed over Australian Serbian team of Jelena Dokic and Bojana Jovanovski with a breadstick and trashed
qualifiers, Polish Urszula Radwanska and Russian Arina Rodionova with an assuring 6-1, 6-0 win.
Up next for the winning combination of Huber and Raymond are the lucky losers, New Zealand’s Marina Erakovic and Thailand’s Tamarine Tanasugarn.
Fourth seeds, Indian Sania Mirza and Russian Elena Vesnina will be joining them in the last eight spot. They dumped thirteenth seeds, Slovak Daniela Hantuchova and Agnieszka Radwanska in straight sets to advance in this event.
Mirza and Vesnina put up a solid display of tennis and never felt any threat from their in-form rivals. They fended off Slovakian Polish tandem with their amazing defensive skills and with the help of just few breaks, the Indo
Russian pair triumphed with a 6-4, 6-3 score line at Centre Court.
The higher ranked seeds earned a bagel in their opening round match against Russian American team of Anna Chakvetadze and Melanie Oudin but they rallied past Czech Kazakh tandem of Renata Voracova and Galina Voskoboeva in a three
setter match to reach this spot.
Next challenge for the winners is the Spanish duo of Nuria Llagostera Vives and Arantxa Parra Santonja who trashed Italians Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci in straight sets to set-up this clash.
