Huber/ Raymond breeze past Peschke/ Srebotnik to take the title – WTA Championships 2011
Liezel Huber with Lisa Raymond wrapped up a breakthrough year by getting rid of Kveta Peschke with Katarina Srebotnik in the doubles title match of the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships 2011.
It took the former world number ones (Huber/ Raymond) only one hour and twenty four minutes on indoor hard courts of the Sinan Erdem Dome to take out their adversaries in straight sets of 6-4, 6-4 on Sunday the 30th of October 2011.
Initiating the first round of the match was Peschke/ Srebotnik after they had won the service toss and they got off to a great start as they held their service game to commence the scoreboard at 1-0. Following in their footsteps was the second seeded couple (Huber/ Raymond) and they too placed themselves at 1-1 on the scoreboard.
In the following games, the players matched a blow for a blow and the scoreboard tied at 2-2 with a hold of serve from both the players. They then broke each other back-to-back and the score once more levelled at 3-3 by the end of the sixth game. As the two again held serve the score balanced at 4-4 by the end of the eighth game.
However, during the last two games Huber/ Raymond capitalized from a second breakpoint and as they served for the set, they smashed a marvellous backhand crosscourt shot to bag the opening set and were now one up in the match.
The second was initiated by again Peschke/ Srebotnik but this time they reeled off straight two games against their adversaries to place themselves on the scoreboard at 2-0. However, in subsequent two games Huber/ Raymond managed to with hold their adversaries with a break and serve to tie the score at 2-2 by the end of the fourth game.
From there onwards the score progressed on even terms and the players matched an eye for an eye. The neck-on-neck run kept the score tied at 3-3 and then 4-4 by the end of the eighth game as the players bagged two games each by holding their service games.
In the last two games, as Peschke/ Srebotnik double faulted on their second serve in the ninth game, they gifted their adversaries a crucial break. In doing so; Huber/ Raymond were now only a game away and as they held their serve, they sealed their victory of the set and the match to take home the WTA Championship title.
