Huber/Raymond cripple Dushevina/Tanasugarn to enter quarters – Rogers Cup 2012
Top seeded American junction, Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond, devastated the Russian-Thai tandem, Vera Dushevina and Tamarine Tanasugarn, with a breadstick at the Rogers Cup 2012 on Thursday. They formulated a 6-1, 6-3 victory against their rivals to breeze
into the quarter-finals at this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Five event taking place in Montreal, Canada.
The Americans displayed brilliant co-ordination to outsmart Dushevina and Tanasugarn in their second encounter in Stade Uniprix. The contestants previously battled each other at the AEGON Classic in Birmingham earlier this season and after pulling out this
victory in 57 minutes, Huber and Raymond improved to a 2-0 lifetime in the head-to-head series against their opponents.
Huber and Raymond stormed into this outdoor hard court event. They unleashed barrage of groundstrokes to reel off the opening five games before the Russian-Thai pair could hold on. The Americans plucked their serve once more and ultimately clicked the opener
with a breadstick. They bagged their entire serves without encountering any trouble and converted two out of three break chances to their advantage.
The top ranked team lost their track towards the following set. They suffered the first blow in the fourth game to go 1-3 down. However, the Americans made a fitting reply after that and went on a five-game killing spree. They failed to fend off the lone
breakpoint they came across but capitalised on three out of five break opportunities to earn the fame.
The highest ranked tandem at this event ruled throughout the battle. They clobbered a slightly lower first serve share of 68 per cent as compared to their opponents’ 72 per cent but tremendously availed 11 out of 15 points on it.
Up next for the seeds are the conqueror of the match between the South African-Czech pair, Natalie Grandin and Vladimira Uhlirova, and the German-Chinese junction, Sabine Lisicki and Shuai Peng.
The only other team who advanced later that day was the Taiwanese pair, Hao-Ching Chan and Yung-Jan Chan. The Taiwanese slaughtered the American-Spanish collaboration, Jill Craybas and Carla Suarez Navarro, with a breadstick and a bagel. They needed 43 minutes
to charge into the final eight at this US Open build-up event.
