Huber/Raymond oust Chuang/Peer to enter semis – New Haven Open 2012
Top seeded Americans, Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond, took down the Taiwanese-Israeli pair, Chia-Jung Chuang and Shahar Peer, in straight sets at the New Haven Open 2012 on Wednesday. They nudged up a 7-6(5), 6-2 victory against their opponents to book a
spot in the final four at this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier event held in Connecticut, United States.
The American seeds showed flawless performance to outshine Chuang and Peer in their first encounter. After recording the success in one hour and 19 minutes, Huber and Raymond assertively powered into the semi-finals at this outdoor hard court event.
Huber and Raymond made a sloppy entry at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center. They suffered the first blow in the sixth game to trail at 2-4. They recovered in the very next game but lost their serve again in the eighth game to go 3-5 down. However, the Americans
not only snatched their break back in the ninth game but remained calm to prolong the set to a tie-breaker. Huber and Raymond took a 3-1 lead in it before closing out the opener with a 7-6(5) win.
Ranked top in the WTA Premier Doubles Rankings, Huber and Raymond lost their track towards the following set and suffered the first blow in the opening game to suffer the initial setback. They recovered in the very next game but lost their serve again in
the third game to trail at 1-2. However, the Americans unleashed their skills afterwards and reeled off the last five games, eventually sealing the set by winning six games to two.
The highest ranked junction in this hard court event, Huber and Raymond took full advantage of nine double faults their rivals spilled. They also formulated a higher first serve share of 61 per cent as opposed to their rival’s 54 per cent and impressively
clinched 23 out of 37 points on it.
Next up for the Americans is the winner of the match between third seeds, Katarina Srebotnik and Jie Zheng, and the Slovenian-Polish team, Andreja Klepac and Alicja Rosolska.
The second seeded Czechs, Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka, will join Huber and Raymond in the last four. They tumbled the German-Czech duo, Anna-Lena Gronefeld and Kveta Peschke, in straight sets to reach this spot.
