Hubert Fournier felt exasperated following the draw against fellow Ligue 1 outfit, FC Lorient. The Reims-based club was forced to share the points due to a late equaliser by Les Merlus. The coach felt no hesitation in voicing his displeasure regarding the
result.
The French outfit had a chance to end the year on a high note. However, their ambitions were obstructed as the side had to settle for a bitter draw at the Stade du Moustoir. Despite Fournier’s men leading their opponents twice, the side was still unable
to finish the year with a win. The coach expressed his views after the game:
“To say I am devastated is a bit strong. But we are annoyed. It's not that the draw is the wrong result, it's just the scenario. The equaliser came from a set-piece in the final seconds after we had no chance to kill the game.”
Fournier went on to state that his players share his discontentment, as they were unable to protect their lead. While conceding a goal at the very end of the game adds further disappointment for the Reims-based club. The Frenchman stated:
“We are very disappointed because we could have won the game. But we have built on the draw against Lille.”
However, the Frenchman figured out a silver lining despite the disappointing result. The coach was happy at his team’s improvement as his side finally managed to score two goals away from home. The 45-year old said:
“We have scored two goals away from home, which we hadn't yet done. We need to build on this match, even if the holidays might have been more enjoyable had we taken all three points.”
The coach feels convinced that the side can improve in the upcoming year. Fournier doesn’t feel bothered by the number of points that the team has secured in the league so far. He said:
“I am convinced that we will do better in such situations in the second half of the season, even if we don't have enough points on the board.”
