Hublot defeat AMG-Mercedes to clinch Miami Beach Women’s Polo Cup
Tara Lordi scored the game-winner in the extra-time, as Hublot powered a 5-4 victory over AMG-Mercedes in the crucial finals of the Miami Beach Women’s Polo Cup played at South Beach, Florida.
After a nail-biting contest, Hublot managed a narrow one goal triumph and clinched the title of the exciting tournament.
The game started on a high note and both sides had good momentum in the first half of play. The Hublot troika of Melissa Hornung, Angela York and Tara Lordi scored one goal each and put their team ahead on the scoreboard. However, the brilliant strikers
from AMG-Mercedes were not sitting inactively and watching the game go by. Natascha Baecher, Costanza Marchiorello and Anis Jamaludin scored one time apiece and had it all even at 3-3.
Interestingly, an end-to-end play was observed in the extra-time and it was concluded without any decision. The three-all tie further pushed the two teams into the shoot-out round to settle on the game. In the shoot-out stage, each player from the two sides
found an opportunity to unleash a devastating penalty shot. The shoot-out is used to determine a winner of the match when the score is tied at the end of regulation time.
In the first shot from AMG-Mercedes, Anis Jamaludin successfully converted a penalty shot and put his side ahead on the scoreboard. Melissa Hornung scored off their opening shot and again tied the knots at 4-4. Unluckily, the second player of AMG-Mercedes
namely Costanza Marchiorello missed the shot and gave Hublot a chance to win the game, which they did not miss. Tara Lordi impressively connected on the spot shot and sealed the Hublot’s triumph at 5-4. Owing to her brilliant performance, Lordi was selected
for the Most Valuable Player award of the tournament.
