Huddersfield Giants release Elliot Hodgson - Rugby League
Huddersfield Giants confirmed on Tuesday, November 22, the release of Elliot Hodgson from the club. This decision was made with mutual consent of the player, even though he had a year remaining on his contract with the club.
The player was not playing for Giants, ever since he made his Super League debut at St Helens in 2009, which had convinced the player and the club alike, to dissolve their contract. This way either sides could concentrate on their work in a much better way.
The club will focus on those players, who are playing on a permanent basis. Meanwhile, the player will also stay focused in one direction. The deal cancellation will help both sides grow tremendously.
While expressing his views about the latest happening at Huddersfield, their managing director, Richard Thewlis, said, "There are a number of established full-backs now at the club in Scott Grix, Aaron Murphy and Leroy Cudjoe on long-term arrangements, as
well as young Elliot Gorman pushing through in the Under-18s. So we all felt it best if he sought another opportunity where he can play first-team rugby."
Thewlis further added that with this release, Elliot will have a lot of time to practise playing week after week in first-team rugby, which will help him grow as a rugby league player. This was the only way the player could consider upgrading his level as
he went into a contract with Giants.
Commenting about the decision, the managing director said that Elliot is an over-age reserve grade player at the Giants and currently they could only make three players play for them. The player’s time was already very short and the decision made will help
him a lot.
He also went on and added that the player should now concentrate on playing first grade league game.
Thewlis also commented that by continuing otherwise would have had an adverse impact on the player’s future, because that way he would not have given proper time to his first games. Both sides had realised it in time that this was best for either of them
to consider parting ways.
