Huddersfield Giants seal three-year deal with Jason Chan - Rugby League
Jason Chan from the Crusaders penned a three-year deal with the Huddersfield Giants on Thursday, August 4, at the Galpharm Stadium.
Chan joined the Crusaders in 2009 after playing with the National Rugby League (NRL) feeder club, the Windsor Wolves. Chan expressed his excitement to work with one of the top rated clubs, the Giants, which is currently at the fourth spot within the Engage
Super League tables, after enjoying a successful run with the Crusaders. He explained that he was already aware of Huddersfield’s inclination towards him and wanted to make the most of this opportunity.
While commenting on the opportunity to join in with the Giants, Chan stated, "I am delighted to get the opportunity of finally joining Huddersfield as I have been aware of their interest in the past. They are a top-four club and it's a fantastic opportunity
for me."
The crisis-hit Crusaders are uncertain of their future, after the Crusaders had pulled themselves out the Super League licensing process just a day prior to the announcement of the fourteen super league clubs, for the future Super League games until 2014.
Chan talked about his move to the Giants and stated, “I was looking at my options before the shock news last week but irrespective of that Huddersfield is definitely the right move for me to make now and I look forward to the challenge there next year.”
Following the bad news which was broken to the Crusaders a week ago, some of the Crusaders have already found themselves their future employers. This includes Jarrod Sammut and Hep Cahill, who have moved to Bradford Bulls and Widnes Vikings respectively.
In line with the trend prevalent within the Crusaders, Chan also announced his future three-year deal.
While explaining their latest pick, Nathan Brown, the head coach of the Huddersfield stated, “Jason adds quality to any team and he is definitely a good addition to our squad."
The coach further elaborated on Chan's attributes that convinced him and mentioned that the players like Chan that have brilliant footwork can easily advance the ball into the field and benefit their team.
A few days ago, Rod Findlay, the chief executive of Crusaders also issued a plea to rival clubs, saying that help should be extended to the Crusaders’ players and staff alike, as they are assets to the world of rugby. He further added that the Crusaders
should be given priority over the other inexperienced players while the clubs are recruiting for the future league games.
