Hudson Landing and Control Seeker to meet again next spring after the All American thriller
Chalk Stables’ 5-year-old gelding, Hudson Landing, had it in him just enough to take the Grade 3, $100,000 All American Stakes at Golden Gate Fields on 23 November, 2012, over Control Seeker who lost it by a stride in second, as Fast Track finished third
not too far away from the battling duo.
This dramatic finish in the All American Stakes has sown the seed of yet another intriguing rivalry for the Northern California racing fans, as both barns have given the fans something to look forward to. The new is that both will face each other yet again
in the San Francisco Mile next spring.
Trained by Blaine Wright, the son of Maria’s Mon, Hudson Landing wasn’t suppose to run in the All American Stakes, as he previously finished ninth in the in the Longacres Mile on 19 August, and came out of the race with the body sore.
Despite, considering extra rest for Hudson Landing following his ninth place showing, Wright was forced to think of the All American Stakes because Hudson Landing bounced back quickly, and was in shape in no time.
The All American Stakes was run over a distance of 1 1/16 miles over the Tapeta fast track.
Out of Morning Star by Shotiche, Hudson Landing was pointed at prep race prior to his All American start, and though he finished third on the day, the prep race was key to his victory in the All American Stakes as it set him up nicely for the big race.
It was his second grade 3 victory, as he landed the Grade 3 San Francisco Mile in April this year, defeating Jeranimo in second and Gallant Son in third, while he covered the mile in 1 minute and 37.29 seconds on turf.
“Hudson Landing is not the greatest work horse, but he shows up on race day,” said Wright. “It was essential to get a prep race.”
Claimed for $50,000 by owner Jared Chappel, who would love to see his gelding do a double on San Francisco Mile, especially after defeating Control Seeker again.
“The San Francisco Mile was like our Kentucky Derby,” said Chappell.
