got a bt bill for £500 today with loads of premium rate numbers i didnt dial. Also "special services" and "multimedia" which i think could be SKY. Is it possible some sort of "dialler" could have been attached to the phone line. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

  1. I had the same with an O2 bill which had connection times to the Internet on it.  I don't even know how to connect to the Internet from my mobile.  Call BT and ask for an explanation - I got my money back, hopefully they'll credit you too.

  2. I'm a BT engineer and get called to this on occasion, when someone says they haven't called the numbers on their bill. We check the line all the way from the exchange to the house and have never found where someone has 'teed' into the line illegally to use it. So that is unlikely.

However the most likely cause is your computer has got a virus and is dialling these numbers for either a music or film download website and every time you go on line its using these programs. So please check your computer and get a good virus checker as this will show up any problems. Good luck.

  3. Just a thought, is there anyone else at all in your household? At one time I had the "pleasure" of working for BT and had numerous calls about that sort of thing.  On one I recall, the numbers called were known to be, shall we say, "naughty" phone lines, and when I asked the lady caller who else was in the household  there was a long silence and then "I'll KILL him!" . . .
