Huge Flame On Hills, Fife Scotland.?

A few days ago now, prehaps on friday 15th august... there was a huge flame visible across the hills over the Firth towards fife in scotland. it was lighting the whole sky amber and now in exactly the same place there is a weird glowing beacon! can anybody explain what this was?

  1. What you see is The Mossmorran NGL (natural gas liquids) fractionation plant system located on the outskirts of Cowdenbeath, Fife. It is part of is part of the North Sea Brent oil and gas field system.

    The flare from the Mossmorran site is clearly visible, day and night, from any elevated point in the city of Edinburgh.


  2. Oil refinery burning off excess gas. Happens all the time. Great sight though.

  3. they were burning off materials from fife ethylene plant at cowdenbeath,we were told of it some weeks ago,they doit every so often and it lights up the whole of the west side of town(i live 4 miles away)
