  1. i suggest you install a service pack on your pc and delete all dangerous software and stop using IE. start using firefox

  2. You might be able to simply change the homepage you are using - if the change remains after you close and restart IE - you're probably ok, but if it keeps resetting back to this malevolent one, then you almost definitely have a worse problem.

Some websites can and will change things like homepage, but they can only do it when you open them and the browser is able to run the appropriate scripts, so if it changes back after you've put in a homepage such as "about:blank" - which is a completely blank page, then you defo have problems

  3. It is very likely a Smitfraud infection. Fake and phony 'warnings' to try and con you into purchasing a rogue software to 'fix' the problem.

It should actually be called extortion-ware. First they infect your computer and then they want money to 'cure' it.

All of these are specialised removal tools for this type of fake, rogue advertising of useless malware removal softwares. (Zlob/Smitfraud infections.).

Almost all "general purpose","all-in one" spyware and virus removal programs such as AVG Anti-virus, Norton, McAfee or Spybot S & D cannot remove it, as you have already found out.

  4. could be spyware, but I am guessing it is a virus hiding somewhere based on you saying that it acts the same even though it was deleted.

I ran into a similar issue on a clients PC a few weeks ago.

Ended up that even with all the Windows updates and both spybot and ad-aware running, and AVG it was not able to remedy the issue.

I decided to give Avast security suite a shot and I was surprised that it ended up finding 6 virus's that AVG didnt catch.

Ended up being a boot sector virus that needed to be cleared in safe mode.  Also had to turn off "system restore" as the latest snapshot seemed to be infected so it was no good anymore.

I would also suggest moving away from IE.  Move to FF and get ab-block+ and no-script as add-on's....since I have moved over I have not seen a single browser related issue.

    Just my $.02

  5. i suggested you to scan it with "combofix" google it and download....

do the scan on safe mode....... (windows only)

  6. I had a similar problem and I reinstalled windows.I thing it's the best choice if your anti virus is unable to remove it.However you can try those on-line scanners to see if you can remove it that way:   http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols...   or

  7. I would suggest you look into some of these programs(mainly the anti-spyware ones and ThreatFire)

    -Spyware Doctor with AV (anti-spyware)

or Spybot S&D if you want a free program

    -PC Tools Firewall Plus(free) (firewall)

    -ThreatFire(free) (added virus protection)

-CCleaner(keep computer running pretty good, cleans up history and whatnot)

    -Firefox(safe browser)
