There is a hot trade rumor making the rounds about Nikolai Khabibulin heading to Ottawa in a three way deal.

The rumor has Ottawa sending Andrej Meszaros and Martin Gerber to Los Angeles, who would then send Anze Kopitar to the Blackhawks while the Senators would receive Khabibulin and either Brent Seabrook or Cam Barker. Stay tuned, this could be a wild move.

  1. That makes no sense for the Kings... all the more reason it's probably true.

I like the move for Chicago if it's Cam Barker.  Seabrook's too promising.  Wouldn't make them a cup contender, but it would make them a playoff lock.

  2. Why in the heck would LA want Gerber? He blows chow badly! I could see then wanting to take Meszaros, but Gerber? Isnt he a canidate for the KHL? LA has 3 goaltending prospects in Quick, Ersberg and Bernier, AND they still have LaBarbera.  Now that Hlomqvist is gone , I think Gerber has to be the worst starting goalie in the league (maybe COL... Raycroft or Budaj)......BUT then again Gerber has only one year left on contract, so they use him as a Shiitty Goalie for a year and let his contract expire in order to get Meszaros.

  3. I wouldn't say cup contender, but it will bring them further into the playoffs.

  4. The offense is there, but they would have to see how the goaltending and defense settle in....look at tampa bay...all offense no D or G and they will most liekly struggle....a few more moves or another season or two and I think they will be.

  5. I don't understand why Ottawa would make this move.  Moving a GK and a defenseman for another GK and defenseman, both of which are not as good?!  This rumor stinks of something that would come out of Toronto.  Oh wait...

  6. if this trade happens it wouldnt make chicago a cup contender. on the sens, black hawks, and kings websites don't say anything about this, i just looked, so i doubt this will happen.

  7. **** Dr. ...Gerber is hardly the worst goalie in the NHL. I guess you haven't seen him play as of late.

  8. Doesn't make Chicago a contender but gets them out of a Salary Cap problem.

My whole question on this is why is Ottawa involved. There is nothing in it for them. Over priced goalie and defenceman for

overpriced goaling and defenceman. Direct trade between Chicago and Kings helps with both teams cap problems.

  9. I dont think one player would make a difference, especially since they also lose their starting goalie. They might move farther up in rankings, possibly make the playoffs, but they are nowhere near cup contenders

  10. This is a very interesting deal because pretty much every team gets what they need, other than the Blackhawks who get rid of what they needed to instead.

  11. No, I don't think that makes Chicago a Cup contender. Not even close. BUT- it certainly makes them a likely playoff team for the first time in forever. I doubt it happens, though. Frankly, I think Ottawa would find themselves being ripped off. And L.A. is not going to cough up their best player for a slightly-better-than-average defenseman and a mediocre goalie. Not a chance.

  12. not a cup contender yet in a few years yes. They will improve ALOT though

  13. Mr. Taco, ur not making any sense, you say that ottawa is getting ripped off but all they are giving up are a slightly better than average defensman and mediocre goalie,  but they will recieve a slightly better than average defensman and a good goalie, la would be ripped off, only getting  a good dman and  an unconsistan goalie for their best player, and i dont know if Chicago needs anymore scoring power, and i already do think that Chicago can make a run to the cup, pending injuries, but they have great offense, their goaltending situation is better than last year, and their defense is solid

  14. It would make them better but still not Cup contenders.
