Huge mosquito? Or something else?

Question

Last weekend I saw what looked like a 'roided out mosquito. My husband said it was a mosquito wasp. What the heck is that?

Sorry there is no catagory for this question...so I put it here hoping to get some answers.

It was probably a Crane Fly.  Looks like a giant mosquito, but not after blood.

The 2nd image in the link I'm including looks like the ones we have in North America.  There are others though, as you will see in the link.

i think its those bugs that eat or kill the mosquitos.

Jeez I'm 51 years old and all my life I have thought (wrongly) that those were male mosquitoes.  Learned something new again.  I like that.

i think i've seen those before my family says it's a mosquito hawk.
